UMass, Dana Farber Land HIV Research Grants

UMass Medical School in Worcester will receive a $411,250 grant for HIV research.

A similar grant of $763,750 was awarded to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. The grants are awarded through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and were announced by U.S. Sen. John Kerry, and U.S. Rep. James McGovern, D-Worcester.

UMass will use the funding to study how the human immune system fights infections including HIV.

Dana Farber will use its grant to study how genes respond to HIV vaccines.
