UMass Could Get Millions For ALS Fight

Former Bay State Gov. Paul Cellucci is kicking off a campaign on Thursday to raise millions of dollars for the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester to research ALS, or Lou Gehrig's Disease.

Cellucci is being treated for ALS at UMass Medical School by Dr. Robert Brown, a leading ALS researcher and chair of the neurology department at the school.

Cellucci, along with Brown and Michael Collins, UMass Medical School Chancellor and other state dignitaries will be at Fenway Park tomorrow night to announce the UMass ALS Champions Fund, which is a fundraising effort to support Brown's research at UMass.

Officials will announce additional details about how the funds will be raised during tomorrow's press conference, a Medical School spokesperson said.
