UMass Chan Medical School in Worcester received funding from the UMass Cancer Center pilot project program to pursue five different cancer research projects, according to a Wednesday announcement.
The research projects include developing computational models for detecting blood cancer earlier as well as uncovering epigenetic vulnerabilities of triple-negative breast cancer, per the press release.
The UMass Cancer Center consists of professionals at UMass Chan Medical School who focus on cancer prevention, treatment, and research. The center awarded one-year grants for the five selected projects.
The UMass Cancer Center’s research programs are organized into three main areas: basic science, translational and clinical research, and cancer prevention and control, according to the announcement.
The Department of Population & Quantitative Health Sciences, another UMass department, and the National Cancer Institute, based in Maryland, provided additional funding for the pilot projects.
