UMass Chan Medical School researcher Zaida Ramirez-Ortiz, an assistant professor of medicine, has received a 2021 Lupus Innovation Award from the Lupus Research Alliance, according to an announcement on the UMass Chan website Wednesday.
The award offers up to $150,000 over two years, with early-stage investigators eligible for an additional year of funding, per the announcement.
Ramirez-Ortiz received the award for her work on underlying mechanisms of lupus, a chronic autoimmune disease which disproportionately affects women, and especially women of color.
