Seven employees at UMass Chan Medical School in Worcester ranked among the top 16 highest-paid state employees in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for the 2021 fiscal year, including Chancellor Michael Collins, who is the overall highest-paid state employee.
Collins earned a total $1.3 million over the last fiscal year, $200,000 more than he had in the previous year, to retain his number one spot amongst all state employees, according to data provided to WBJ by the Massachusetts Office of the Comptroller.
Terence Flotte, dean of UMass Chan, was the second-highest ranking state employee, with total earnings of $1.1 million.
Other members of UMass Chan who rank among the top earners are Kenneth Rock, professor of pathology (total earnings of $598,666), Michael Green, vice provost ($581,441), and executive vice chancellors Lisa Colombo ($560,796), John Lindstedt ($520,626), and Parth Chakrabati ($519,742).
The highest ranking non-UMass Chan employee was Matthew McCall, the former head coach of the UMass Amherst basketball team. McCall stepped down after the most recent season, but still earned $1 million before stepping down.
Of the top 20 highest-paid state employees, all of them worked in the University of Massachusetts system.
