UConn opens up new top spot

University of Connecticut is ramping up its efforts to attract research dollars with the creation of a vice president of research position. The Board of Trustees moved this week to create the job, according to student newspaper The Daily Campus.

The new vice president would work closely with the university president and other administration to coordinate and monitor research across the UConn system. President Michael Hogan said a vice president is needed to provide unity for the university’s research program, and he or she should help snag large federal research grants and form well-developed research proposals.

Hogan said although the position was just created this week, the university has been planning the change for some time, and that UConn is currently looking at vice presidential candidates.
