Voluntary separations of longer-term Tyco SimplexGrinnell employees in Westminster will reduce the company’s local workforce 5 percent by the end of the year while keeping the number of employees above 700, according to a spokesperson for the manufacturer of security systems.
“Tyco’s business remains healthy and this is really part of an ongoing focus on improving operational efficiency and making strategic investments to improve our business and better serve our customers,” said Chris Woodcock, a local spokesperson for Tyco that is based in Princeton, N.J.-.
Initial buyout offers to veteran employees were extended in the fall, he said. Some departed within the last month and most employees who opted to take the voluntary separations will have left the company by the end of December, said Woodcock.
“Westminster remains an important part of Tyco’s global fire and security operations and the Tyco employees in Westminster remain committed to serving the local communities both through their work and charitable volunteer efforts,” Woodcock said.
The local reductions are part of a worldwide workforce cut for parent Tyco International, he said. The cuts are aimed to help the entire company improve efficiency while making investments in research and development as well as marketing.
