Two Worcester organizations have received a total of $66,400 in state funding to help reduce the spread of coronavirus in communities of color in the cities hardest hit by the pandemic in Massachusetts.
Worcester Interfaith at 111 Park Ave. received $45,000 and the African Community Education program at 484 Main St. got $21,400 as two of 20 such community groups statewide announced for funding by the Gov. Charlie Baker Administration on Monday. In all, the state gave $650,000, including to groups in Chelsea, Lawrence, Revere, Springfield and other cities with particularly high case numbers.
Each organization received between $10,000 and $50,000. Each group has demonstrated a deep engagement in its community and an understanding of its needs, as well as strategies to quickly implement projects to help during the pandemic, the state said.
