Two Worcester Firms Get Life Sciences Loans

The Massachusetts Life Sciences Center awarded $3.75 million in loans to five biotech companies today, including two firms in Worcester.

ECI Biotech and Grove Instruments, both of Worcester, each received $750,000 loans as part of the Life Science Center’s accelerator program.

ECI Biotech makes diagnostic sensors for bacterial and fungal infections with its product, ExpressDetect.

Grove Instruments has developed a non-invasive and painless blood sugar measurement system that uses light, and no needles, to take blood sugar readings.

Other companies awarded funds today include MoMelan Technologies and Myomo Inc., both of Cambridge, and AesRx of Newton.

This is the third year of the program. Ten other companies have been funded through the first two years of the program.
