Twelve area nursing homes score highest Medicare ratings

Twelve out of 74 Central Massachusetts nursing homes received top care quality rankings from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, which are designed to help consumers, families and caregivers compare nursing homes more easily.

CMS analyzes health inspection, staffing, quality measures and other data to determine how nursing homes stack up in terms of their overall quality. Its Nursing Home Compare website allows visitors to compare up to three nursing homes at once.

The Central Massachusetts nursing homes that received five out of five stars in the rankings are:

The website isn’t meant to be conclusive and should be used in conjunction with other sources of information on nursing homes, according to CMS. Similar hospital rankings from CMS have come under fire from healthcare executives, who have panned them as being unfair to hospitals with higher volumes of patients.
