Vestas Wind Systems, a Denmark-based wind turbine manufacturer with a facility in Hudson, reported a second-quarter loss of $20.5 million.
Revenue was down 17 percent compared to a year ago to $1.21 billion.
The company reported a $55 million profit in the same period a year earlier.
It said that it will lay off 300 employees in Denmark, but plans to hire as many as 3,000 employees worldwide before the end of the year.
Vestas bought the assets of Lunenburg-based ePower LLC in late 2008 and opened an R & D facility in Hudson less than a year later.
