Tufts Health Plan of Watertown and Illinois-based Delta Dental, two of Massachusetts’ largest insurance players, last week announced they will collaborate to improve care coordination for their members, which may lead to premium savings for employers.
According to a statement from both insurers, the collaboration will identify opportunities for better care coordination through information sharing, targeted member engagement and provider collaboration.
The partnership began with a pilot program involving a subset of members who carry both Tufts Health Plan and Delta Dental, which identified members with chronic conditions, like diabetes, and provided better coordination and education for providers on the link between oral health and overall health.
In addition, the collaboration creates an opportunity for employers to reduce premium costs when they bundle medical benefits from Tufts and dental coverage from Delta Dental.
Discounts are effective on July 1 for fully-insured groups with between 51-250 eligible subscribers.
Tufts Health Plan is the third-largest health insurer in Massachusetts and has an office in downtown Worcester. Delta Dental is the state’s largest dental insurer.
