Trader Joe’s has opened a location in Milford at the former site of a Staples office supply store, making it the California-based company’s fourth location in Central Massachusetts.
The new store located at 230 Fortune Blvd. opened Tuesday morning. The location was officially announced in September, following an earlier construction permit request which revealed the company’s intentions to open at the site, according to the Milford Patch.
The store is located next to a vacant storefront most recently occupied by Bed, Bath, & Beyond and across the shopping plaza from a Target store.
Known for its smaller footprint than many other national grocers, Trader Joe’s new Milford location comes in at about 20,000 square feet, a similar size to its existing Shrewsbury location and much smaller than the 57,198-square-foot Stop & Shop in Worcester, which closed on Oct. 31.
Similar to its Shrewsbury location, Trader Joe’s in Milford will not sell alcoholic beverages, according to the company’s website.
In addition to Shrewsbury and Milford, the company operates locations in Acton and Framingham, having opened its first Massachusetts locations in 1996, according to CNN.
