Towns To Share $40M In Recovery Grants

Seventy-five towns, including 11 in Central Massachusetts will share $40.4 million in community development block grants, Gov. Deval Patrick announced today.

More than $31 million of the grant funding comes from the federal community development block grants program and about $9 million is from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, more commonly known as the stimulus.

The funds were awarded competitively and target community revitalization and infrastructure projects.

In Central Massachusetts, Ashby, Athol, Ayer, Brookfield, Clinton, Gardner, Hardwick, Milford, Southbridge, Webster and Winchendon were awarded grants between $126,668 and $924,670 mostly for housing rehabilitation and infrastructure work.
