A 47-unit market-rate apartment complex known as the Torrey Factory Lofts will officially open on Wednesday, marking the completion of a three-year project rehabilitating the historic mill at 128 Chandler St. in Worcester, according to a Friday press release.
Project managers Timothy Adler and Daniel Stroe purchased the property in March 2019 for $700,000. Originally a razor factory in the heart of Worcester’s Main Middle, the Torrey Factory had been vacant for about 10 years prior to the project, according to the apartment building’s website.
The monthly rent ranges from $1,100 for a studio to $1,600 for a 2-bedroom, according to a posting on Apartments.com.
Built in 1890, the building is about 31,000 square feet and is assessed by the City Of Worcester at just over $1 million.
In 2019, Adler and Stroe completed a 23-unit luxury apartment project on 155 Ararat St. in Worcester.
The lofts will open among a flurry of other projects along Chandler Street. In October, the community development nonprofit Worcester Common Ground celebrated a ribbon cutting for a $14-million, 31-unit affordable housing project across the street at 126 Chandler St.
Less than half a mile down the road, a multi-family real estate developer is proposing to demolish the historic Hovey Laundry building, and the Vendome and Saint Ives apartment buildings sold for $3 million in October.
