Old Sturbridge Village has cancelled its July 3 fireworks celebration because its fireworks launch site is flooded, the museum said in a statement last night.
A June 1 tornado that touched down on museum property left debris in the nearby Quinebaug River, causing the flooding. A search for alternate launch sites was unsuccessful as hundreds of downed trees remain a fire hazard.
Daytime Independence Day activities at the village will proceed as scheduled on July 3 and July 4. No museum exhibit buildings were damaged in the tornado.
OSV said it is hoping to reschedule the event, but ticket refunds are available by calling 508-347-3362. Tickets purchased online will be refunded automatically.
