The TJX Cos. has proposed a $23 million, 96,000-square-foot expansion of its headquarters in Framingham.
The standalone building would occupy 2.26 acres on the Framingham-Natick border and would provide space for employee training, a product development library, merchandise presentation center and employee fitness center, according to planning documents.
An enclosed skywalk would connect the new “Corporate Support Center” to the company’s existing 750,000-square-foot facility and parking garage, said Amanda Loomis, Framingham Planning Board administrator.
The project would generate 150 construction jobs and five permanent full-and part-time jobs, the site plan application specified. The site is located within an expedited permitting district, Loomis said, meaning the Planning Board must decide on the proposal within six months.
TJX opened its public hearing on the proposal Oct. 3, Loomis said. It’s slated to discuss stormwater management issues with Framingham planners Oct. 28.
A 20-year tax financing agreement inked between TJX and Framingham in 2012 called for the company to create 225 new jobs in Framingham and spend $143 million on infrastructure improvements. In exchange, Framingham will provide tax incentives.
TJX is the parent firm of global clothing store brands T.J. Maxx and Marshalls, as well as Home Goods.
