Framingham-based discount retailer TJX Cos. Inc. said its profit for 2009 was $1.2 billion as sales hit $20.3 billion, a 7 percent increase over the previous year.
For 2008, the company reported a profit of $880.6 million.
In the fourth quarter, the company had sales of $5.9 billion, a 10 percent increase over the previous year and a profit of $395 million compared to $251 million a year earlier.
The company said increased customer traffic and careful inventory management lead to the sales and profit increases.
TJX operates T.J. Maxx, HomeGoods, Marshalls and other discount retail outlets.
