TJX names new exec; MBA notes fraud activity

The TJX Companies in Framingham announced the appointment of John Gilbert to executive vice president and Chief Marketing Officer, following on the heels of an announcement that fraud has occurred due to the firm's data breach. 

John Gilbert joins the firm from Dunkin' Donuts, where he was vice president of Marketing.  In the role, Gilbert handled all aspects of of marketing for the firm, including brand management advertising, brand public relations, and comprehensive consumer strategies.  He has also held senior marketing positons with Carlson Restaurants Worldwide and PepsiCo Inc. 

Gilbert's appointment follows an annoucement from the Massachusetts Bankers Association that fraud has occurred as a result of the recent data breach stemming from the the TJX Companies.  Several banks across the state have reported fraudulent transactions, traced to purchases in Florida, Georgia, and Lousiana in the U.S., and Hong Kong and Sweden overseas. 

Nearly 60 banks have reported to the MBA that they have been contacted by the card companies regarding the fraudulent purchases, and in many cases, are issuing new cards.  Customers have been assured that they will not be responsible for the charges that occur through unauthorized use of a card with the Visa or MasterCard logo.
