TJX lays off 300 IT workers

Retail giant TJX COs. has laid off 300 information technology workers as it outsources some services to a third-party provider, the company said in a statement.
TJX, which has its headquarters in Framingham and Marlborough, did not specify where the IT employees worked. It announced the restructuring of the IT department May 10.
Some IT workers whose positions were eliminated could have job opportunities through the unnamed third-party provider, TJX said.
"While we are eliminating certain positions in this area of IT, as part of our overall strategy, we are expanding in others to meet the future needs of our business," the company said in a statement. "Although we believe this is the right strategy, these decisions are always difficult. We are grateful to these associates for their contributions and dedication to the company. We are confident that the changes we are making will ultimately better position the IT organization to support the continued growth of our company.”
The owner of Marshalls, T.J.Maxx and HomeGoods, which has around 249,000 employees around the world, said in February its fourth-quarter sales rose by 16 percent to $11 billion, while full-year sales rose by 8 percent to $35.9 billion. Its first-quarter results are due to be released May 22.
