Three Worcester restaurants have reopened after temporary closures following positive coronavirus tests for employees.
Flying Rhino, a restaurant on Shrewsbury Street, was reopening Wednesday after what it said was a thorough professional cleaning a week after one of the restaurant's employees tested positive.
Flying Rhino posted details on its Facebook page to alert the public the employee had last worked the previous Sunday, Nov. 1.
"We share this update with you because safety is of the utmost importance to us and we want to be transparent," Flying Rhino said.
In the Canal District, Compass Tavern closed on Nov. 4 and reopened two days later after a thorough cleaning. Every employee was being tested, the restaurant said, and wouldn't be allowed back to work until receiving a negative result.
Joey's Bar & Grill on Chandler Street was forced to close a day later, on Thursday, after its own employee positive result. The restaurant reopened Monday after a professional cleaning and negative test results for employees.
"We feel a tremendous sense of responsibility to our customers, staff and community and will continue to follow our strict protocols," Joey's said on Facebook. "This experience has been eye opening. Please please everyone wear your masks."
The restaurants' temporary closures come as positive tests in the city hit 266 new weekly cases in the week ending Nov. 5, the highest number since late spring.
We started the summer with outside spaces. Then someone got the bright idea to close these spaces with the white tents. People will think they are still safe eating outside. Restaurants are just looking at extending profits past the summer. The increase in COVID cases is a no brainer.
