Waltham-based Thermo Fisher Scientific, which has operations in Franklin and Milford, reported record second-quarter revenue of $3.1 billion.
That represented an increase of 8.7 percent over the second quarter of 2011.
The scientific instrument and equipment maker’s profits fell year over year because of discontinued operations, including its laboratory workstations unit. Profits were $233.8 million, down 55.3 percent from $523.4 million a year ago.
During the quarter, Thermo Fisher acquired Medford-based chemical company Doe & Ingalls and launched several spectrometry products.
