The Power 50: Timothy P. Murray

TIMOTHY P. MURRAY

President & CEO

Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce, Worcester

Residence: Worcester

Colleges: Fordham University, Western New England University

Murray's role as president and CEO of the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce is just the latest in his career-long endeavor helping to fight for the city and its region. The former city councilor and mayor was a two-term lieutenant governor for the Deval Patrick Administration, and has used his connections and know-how to help Worcester-area businesses thrive as the head of the chamber since 2013. The effort included an attempt at landing Amazon's second headquarters, but it more often entails seeking opportunities for investment and job growth though efforts like more business-friendly tax rates or legislation, or better investments in commuter rail. The $565-million CitySquare downtown Worcester revitalization was his brainchild. Murray serves on the board of trustees at Anna Maria College in Paxton.

What advice would you give up-and-comers? Read the daily and weekly newspapers and business journals to expand your knowledge of the issues, people, opportunities, and challenges where you live and work. Try to be a good listener.

Good tunes: I like country music.
