The Power 50: Jennie Lee Colosi

JENNIE LEE COLOSI

President

E. T. & L. Corp., Stow

Residence: Stow

Colleges: Georgia Institute of Technology, Clark University

On the ground, in the dirt, the development of Central Massachusetts physically happens through Colosi, whose 165-employee company constructs the roads, bridges, airports, dams, bike paths, landfills and developments for the public. For the $160-million, 475,000-square-foot Apex Center in Marlborough – one of the largest residential/retail/hotel developments in the region – E. T. & L. was there, running the site excavation for $11 million. Colosi has been doing this for 30 years now, taking over the 73-year-old business from her father back in 1988. She is a charter member of the Greater Worcester chapter of National Association of Women in Construction. Her company gives out a scholarship to a construction major each year, to continue the flow of talent into the industry.

What advice would you give up-and-comers? Have passion in what you do, be persistent and willing to go beyond where others stop.

Passed down: I collect Depression glass, the pink, green, amber and clear glassware given out at the movies and by food manufacturers in boxes of food in the 1930's. My mother collected Depression glass, and I have enjoyed continuing to collect it.
