Thanks to early snow, Wachusett Mountain first in Mass. to open for skiing

Wachusett Mountain in Princeton became the first in Massachusetts to open for skiing and snowboarding this winter thanks to the 10 inches of snow that fell last week.

Wachusett opened on Saturday, nearly a week earlier than it said it planned to. The mountain even got started with snowmaking just before last Thursday’s storm with help from seasonably cold temperatures.

The Nov. 17 opening was the earliest in Massachusetts and among the first ski areas in New England to open for the season, according to Wachusett. On Monday, the mountain said it had four of its eight lifts open and six of its 27 trails.
