The Worcester Magazine, now over a year under Worcester Telegram & Gazette parent company GateHouse Media, will replace a regular section of the city’s main newspaper.
Beginning with the magazine’s most recent issue, both publications will share content, Content Editor Victor Infante said in a post on the magazine’s website.
Infante said the full magazine is still available for free at select locations.
The insert replaces the Telegram’s discontinued Go! Section that featured cultural, entertainment and event content, but all of that will now be found in the Worcester Magazine inserted publication.
“The goal here is to make Worcester Magazine the essential guide to the region’s arts, entertainment, dining and culture, and to amplify the perspectives and voices that make this such an exciting and interesting place to live,” Infante wrote.
In a brief interview, T&G Executive Editor David Nordman, the initial response from advertisers and readers has been positive.
“Our plan is to take Worcester Magazine and expand on what it does best: arts, entertainment, culture, city life and everything you need for living, working and entertaining in the city,” he said.
The consolidation comes almost two months after a large round of cuts at GateHouse, which included six positions at the newspaper and two at Worcester Magazine, including longtime editor Walter Bird Jr. and writer Josh Lyford.
That left only reporter Bill Shaner at the magazine.
Those cuts came almost simultaneously to an extension of a $100-million stock buyback program announced by GateHouse parent New Media Investment Group.
GateHouse in February 2018 purchased the magazine and and five other small publications in Central Mass. from its own CEO Kirk Davis.
