The top editor for the Telegram & Gazette in Worcester has been promoted to oversee the newspaper's sister outlets in Framingham, Milford and Gardner.
David Nordman, who became the Telegram's executive editor in 2018, will now manage the MetroWest Daily News, Milford Daily News and The Gardner News, according to a company memo April 22 from Lisa Strattan, the vice president of news for New England for Gannett, the papers' parent company.
Nordman, who grew up in Gardner, has risen through the ranks at the Telegram in a variety of roles, including sports editor, deputy managing editor and copy editor.
"Under his leadership, the T&G has continually grown its audience and paid subscribers," Strattan said in the memo. "Dave's knowledge of and connection to the community is unmatched."
Nordman said Monday he's grateful for the opportunity. The four newspapers have already collaborated in recent years, and his appointment, he said, is a chance to build on that to provide readers with the best local news product.
Each of the four papers are owned by Virginia-based Gannett, the nation's largest newspaper publisher, since Gannett was bought last fall by GateHouse. New York-based GateHouse took Gannett's name once the deal was complete.
GateHouse was the longtime owner of MetroWest Daily News and the Milford Daily News, along with other Massachusetts dailies in Quincy, Brockton, Fall River and elsewhere. GateHouse bought the Telegram and The Providence Journal in 2014, and in 2018 added The Gardner News, Worcester Magazine, the Holden Landmark, the Grafton News, the Millbury-Sutton Chronicle, and the Leominster Champion.
Anne Brennan, the editor-in-chief of MetroWest Daily News, Milford Daily News and 14 area weeklies since 2016, will become the executive editor of the Cape Cod Times, another Gannett paper, effective Monday.
