Worcester cannabis firm Temescal Wellness, with locations in Framingham, Hudson and Pittsfield, announced on Wednesday it had destroyed $2.6 million in marijuana vape cartridges following last year’s temporary ban on vaping by Gov. Charlie Baker.

According to a release from the firm, during the vaping ban, the Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission (restricted dispensaries from selling marijuana-infused vape cartridges. Although this ban was lifted after a few months, it was not until August of this year that quarantined vapes were able to be re-tested - a year or more after the cartridges were initially produced.

Temescal Wellness made the decision to instead destroy the cartridges, as most of these quarantined cartridges were close to their expiration date and the product was less than its quality standards, according to a release from the company.

The more than 40,000 cartridges destroyed this November were valued at $2.6 million. The company was unable to make an insurance claim on the destroyed vape cartridges, according to a company spokesperson.
