The Acton-based indoor sports and fitness company Teamworks has vacated its Auburn location on Saint Mark Street, but gym operations will continue under a new name, Auburn Sportsplex, and new management.
Existing adult and youth leagues at the gym will continue, said an employee at the gym, who declined to be interviewed.
Bob Rojee, a Northborough-based regional manager for Teamworks, said that the company chose earlier this month to exercise a termination option in its lease with property owner Auburn Sportsplex LLC. He called the matter “unfortunate.”
“It’s a business decision,” Rojee said. “The location isn’t in our long term plans.”
Rojee would not elaborate further on split, but said that he was told adult and youth sports leagues would continue at the 5 Saint Mark St. gym, which will now be managed by the Natoli family of Auburn, who own the property and had leased it to Teamworks. The Natolis operated a similar indoor sports business at the property before leasing their building to Teamworks four-and-a-half years ago, Rojee said.
Peter Natoli, a principal with Auburn Sportsplex LLC, did not return a call seeking comment for this story.
