Tax Rate Time
The Worcester City Council will set the 2011 tax rate Tuesday evening.
The Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce is calling on the city to set the rate so that taxes for residential and commercial property owners rise by the same percentage.
The chamber anticipates that residential assessments for 2011 will fall while commercial assessments will stay relatively flat. It is advocating for a tax plan that would reduce the tax rate for small business owners.
The chamber said it is also advocating for moving large apartment buildings to the commercial tax rolls, an idea that city leaders have been pushing in recent months.
The Council meeting will take place at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
