Tantara Corp. of Worcester ranks 25th on the 2015 Inner City 100, a list of the inner-city businesses in the U.S. with the fastest-growing revenue.
The Initiative for a Competitive Inner City (ICIC) and Fortune magazine compiled the annual list.
Tantara, at 54 Mason St., is an environmental remediation and construction business founded 15 years ago. According to the list, its 2014 revenue was $9.13 million in 2014, and its five-year growth rate was 408 percent.
The list describes the company this way: “TANTARA boss Dawn Dearborn knows how to clean things up for Uncle Sam. Her environmental remediation and construction business works frequently with the Department of Defense and major industrial clients. Dearborn says her company’s urban setting in central Massachusetts is a great asset for recruiting a broader workforce, as well a central location for conducting operations across states and countries. With global aspirations, TANTARA’s project reach extends from New England to customers as far away as Europe and the Aleutian Islands.”
Eight other Massachusetts firms made the list: one in Lawrence -- Imajine That, ranked 37th – and these Boston companies: Janey Construction Management & Consulting Inc. (12th), Fennick McCredie Architecture Ltd. (40th), Proverb (50th), Pepperdash Technology Corp. (61st), One Way Development (75th), Pinck & Co. (78th), and The Locator Services Group Ltd. (87th).
ICIC said in a statement Thursday: “Boasting an average five-year growth rate of 378 percent between 2010 and 2014, the 2015 Inner City 100 winners represent a wide span of geography, hailing from 45 cities and 23 states.”
ICIC said it relies on a national network of nominating partners — including city offices, economic development organizations, and small business development corporations — to find many of the businesses that appear on the annual ranking.
