Table Talk's future in Canal District in doubt due to ballpark project

Table Talk Pies, with a majority of its operations in Worcester’s Canal District, will have to move at least 14 employees to make way for the construction of the $101-million Polar Park.
Table Talk and other several other businesses maintain office space in a 19,000-square-foot facility at 90 Washington St., which is one of seven properties the city needs to acquire for the development. The stadium is planned to be home to the Triple A minor league Pawtucket Red Sox once the team moves to the Canal District in 2021.
The company, which manufactures miniature snack pies at 120 Washington St., is also mulling whether or not it will move out of its 156,000-square-foot facility as it closely abuts what is expected to be the right field line.
The Worcester Redevelopment Authority has said it needs to acquire at least seven parcels – which does not include Table Talk’s factory – after developer Madison Properties of Boston acquired most of the land needed for the ballpark and related mixed-use developments.
90 Washington St. is in the crosshairs, but no city official has indicated the nearby 74-year-old factory is a target.
Regardless, Table Talk President Harry Kokkinis said there have been some preliminary discussions about the building
“Our property is of interest to the developer and the ballclub,” Kokkinis said.
In an email to WBJ, the team confirmed there have been some discussions about the property but did not indicate that it wanted to acquire the land.
“Our discussion with Table Talk, one of our founding sponsors, has been about how we can be good neighbors to a great company with deep roots in Worcester,” the team said. “We are committed to working with Table Talk to make sure our respective operations work in harmony.”
Table Talk was one of the first 19 corporate sponsors to sign onto the Worcester baseball team last fall.
No conceptual plans released by the city and team include demolition of the property, but Kokkinis said construction will undoubtedly have an impact on Table Talk’s operations.
“They have a lot of dirt to move,” he said. “We’re still kind of figuring out ourselves what we’re going to do.”
