Suzette Crêperie & Café officially opened in Worcester’s Canal District on Saturday, setting up shop in the former Weintraub’s Deli at 126 Water St.
The husband-and-wife team of Jean-Luc Wittner and Evelyn Darling brought the restaurant, after originally launching the company in Boston, to Worcester after learning the Worcester Red Sox would be making the city their new home, according to a press release. They have since renovated the Water Street location, restoring an original tin ceiling and exposing a brick wall in the dining room.
As part of the renovation, the Weintraub’s Delicatessen neon sign will be relocated to the Wachusett Brewing Company’s Brew Yard in the Worcester Public Market.
The restaurant will operate under limited hours with limited seating while the coronavirus pandemic continues to play out. Currently, the restaurant will be open in the evenings from Tuesday through Friday, all day Saturday, and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., with the goal of extending hours to include weekday lunches and weekend brunches.
Wittner moved to the U.S. from France in 2011, with the goal of opening up a restaurant like Suzette’s. He previously worked at Petit Robert Bistro in Needham and the steakhouse Smith & Wollensky in Boston’s Financial District. Darling, in turn, is the executive director of the Downtown Worcester Business Improvement District, previously serving as regional director of the Massachusetts Small Business Development Center at UMass Boston.
The restaurant plans to host a ribbon cutting at a later date.
