What’s your biggest worry as a business executive?

My biggest worry is that the forward momentum over the last number of years in the City of Worcester fades. We’ve got to continue to take advantage of all that our area offers and attract business and graduating college students and keep our young people wanting to live here. How successful we are will tell the story for the next generation of “Worcesterites.”

What could your local city/town leaders do to help your business?

The City of Worcester must work towards a single tax rate. It’s the right thing to do.

What could state or federal leaders do to help your business?

The state must become competitive by offering incentives for businesses to locate here and to stay here. Our state seems to be at a disadvantage in this regard over other regional state economic development models.

What do you love about your work?

I love construction! It is always a new adventure, a new building, a new team, a new challenge. I’m proud that our company stays on the cutting edge – offering services that our customers are looking for – building automation – networking – emergency power systems. The people that work for Coghlin and our partners – the unions, the vendors, the customers – are the best!

What’s your outlook for 2010?

Cautious. Construction lags the economy and we are feeling the impact. We will make the moves necessary so that our company is positioned for recovery.
