More than one in four small businesses don’t have websites, according to the results of a survey that also revealed that small firms have some catching up to do in reaching mobile users in the digital age.
The national survey by Clutch, a research firm, also found that only 56 percent of small businesses have mobile-friendly websites. Meanwhile, 23 percent of companies surveyed planned to increase website spending in 2015.
Beyond websites, the survey found that many small businesses are not making use of other avenues for digital marketing. Only 53 percent of small businesses reported that they actively work on social media, according to Clutch, with 45 percent working on search engine optimization (SEO), and 25 percent on online advertising.
According to Ted Risdall, CEO of Risdall Marketing Group, of New Brighton, Minn., the survey’s findings represent a major opportunity for small businesses.
“Digital marketing campaigns are often a lot less expensive than other types of campaigns,” Risdall told Clutch. “I think that it actually lowers the entry point for a lot of clients.”
