Survey: Firms To Go Green Despite Economy

Results of a survey by Framingham-based technology research firm IDC indicate that companies plan to carry out sustainability initiatives despite the economic recession.

The survey, which was conducted by IDC's Energy Insights, Manufacturing Insights and Global Retail Insights divisions, found that 47 percent of the 350 businesses surveyed would make purchases in order to implement green initiatives; another 39 percent plan to contract with consultants in order to begin environmental sustainability efforts.

IDC said its researchers have seen an increase on the emphasis sustainability projects receive as public pressure for companies to be more environmentally friendly mounts.
