Eleven percent of Boston-area technology executives recently surveyed expect to expand their IT teams in the fourth quarter of this year, according to a report from staffing firm Robert Half International.
That’s down only slightly from a third-quarter projection of 13 percent. More chief information officers – 19 percent – expect to put hiring on hold from October through December. However, the percentage of CIOs who plan to cut their IT staffs fell from 8 percent in the third quarter to 4 percent. Meanwhile, nearly two-thirds – 66 percent – plan to hire only for open positions. That’s up from 55 percent in the third quarter.
Kristen Johnson, regional vice president of Robert Half Technology, said IT professionals with experience in networking, database management and application development are among the most sought after by Boston-area businesses.
"Many companies in the Boston market are confident in future business growth and are hiring to meet pent-up technology demand," she said.
