Gov. Deval Patrick signed a supplemental budget into law Tuesday that provides $15 million to help cover the costs of the emergency response efforts related to the June 1 tornadoes that ripped through Western and Central Massachusetts.
The $54 million supplemental budget bill also includes a provision that will make it easier for cities and towns to borrow money to cover storm-damage related costs.
Other items funded in the bill include:
• $10 million in funding for the Governor’s Safe and Successful Youth Initiative, which aims to eliminate youth violence.
• $14.3 million for a reserve to mitigate deficits at various sheriffs’ offices
• $10 million for estimated child care shortfalls
• $1.2 million to support one-time staging costs in line with reforms in the state’s family homelessness programs
