When the iconic New England Confectionery Co. went out of business last year, with it went many bars Necco made, including the Sky Bar.
Now, the Sudbury food shop Duck Soup has begun making the Sky Bar again. Duck Soup first announced in January it bought the bar at an auction, with its separate centers filled with caramel, vanilla, peanut and fudge.
The Sky Bar will be the only former Necco product — a line that included Sweethearts and Necco Wafers — still to be made in Massachusetts, according to Duck Soup. Louise Mawhinney, the owner of Duck Soup, said then she was stunned to suddenly become the owner of a piece of the former Necco, a bar with something of a cult following.
Duck Soup, located in the Mill Village Shopping Center on Route 20, began making the Sky Bar at the end of October in a new store added next door to Duck Soup. The bars are also available to buy online.
Duck Soup opened in 1971, but the Sky Bar is quite a bit older. Necco started selling the bar in 1938 and continued until production ended in May 2018.
