The Public House Historic Inn in Sturbridge is closed until April 6 to keep employees and guests safe during the coronavirus pandemic.
The Public House is closing along with two sister properties, Concord's Colonial Inn in Concord and the Hawthorne Hotel in Salem. The hotels, which closed starting Monday, said in a joint message on each's website the ownership will monitor developments related to the virus and adjust re-opening schedules if needed.
"We are looking forward to the day when we can open our doors and welcome you back to our properties," the message said.
All three hotels are owned by the Harrington family of Beverly.
The Public House opened in 1771 and has 128 rooms. It joins another notable independent Central Massachusetts hotel, the Beechwood Hotel in Worcester, in closing because of the outbreak. The Beechwood Hotel closed effective Monday and will remain so until May 18.
Most other hotels have remained open through Gov. Charlie Baker's state-of-emergency declaration and a closure of non-essential businesses that went into effect Tuesday.
