Sturbridge optics manufacturer inks deal with U.S. customs

Sturbridge manufacturer of contraband detection equipment Optim has been awarded a five-year no-bid contract to provide equipment to the U.S. Customers and Border Patrol.

The device, the FreedomView Videoscope, can search for illegal contraband – drugs, people and weapons – in hard-to-reach areas of vehicles and containers.

The device allows for safe visual inspections via a small scope camera inserted in a hard-to-reach area, like a fuel tank. Video and still images can be viewed on a small monitor attached to the scope.

The company has had a relationship with CBP since 2010.

The price of the contract was not disclosed.
