The Sturbridge JCPenney, located at 194 Main St., will close in spring 2021, the retailer announced in a recent, undated announcement.

In June, the company announced it would close up to 200 stores as part of a financial restructuring. In the announcement, the retailer said it would continue to operate the majority of its stores, as well as its website.

In a Dec. 7 press release, JCPenney announced Simon Property Group of Indianapolis and Brookfield Asset Management Inc. of Toronto had acquired substantially all of its retail and operating assets.

“With this closing, our operating company has exited Chapter 11 and is continuing under new ownership and the JCPenney banner,” Jill Soltau, CEO of JCPenney said in a statement.
