The Town of Sturbridge was one of eight municipalities in the state to receive funding from a $1.15-million grant allotted by the Gov. Charlie Baker Administration for waterway pollution control, according to a Tuesday press release from the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection.
Sturbridge received $225,000 for a project to apply an alum treatment to reduce phosphorus loading in Quacumquasit Pond, per the announcement.
The Central Massachusetts town was awarded the second highest grant of the eight projects after the Massachusetts Association of Conservation Districts, which received $241,848 for endeavors throughout Franklin, Hampshire, and Hampden Counties.
Braintree, Monterey, and Milton were among the other awardees.
