Strickland family sells Ayer moving company after 72 years, unloads building for $3M

Ayer Moving and Storage, a family-owned company since 1951, has sold its business to Platt Builders Inc. of Groton.

“We are so excited to share that, after 72 years in the business, we have decided it is time for us to pack up and move to the next phase of our lives. We want to assure you that our clients’ storage needs will continue to be met by the new owners of the business: Platt Builders, a local company with thirty years of service to the community and a commitment to customer care,” reads a message from President Karen Strickland and Vice President Phil Strickland on the moving company’s website.

Platt Builders was founded in 1992 and specializes in custom homes, remodels, and custom cabinetry, according to the company’s website.

Platt Builders purchased the Ayer Moving and Storage’s 26,134 square-foot facility at 109 Central Ave. in Ayer for $3.3 million, according to a press release by Lexington’s The Stubblebine Company / CORFAC International, whose principals James Stubblebine and Micah Stubblebine represented the seller and buyer respectively.

The deal closed on Aug. 9, according to the Middlesex South Registry of Deeds. The property is assessed by the Town of Ayer for $973,000.
