Deputy commissioner of the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources Ashley Randle is blazing trails in the department by being named to succeed John Lebeaux as commissioner, the first woman named to the position.
Randle, a member of WBJ’s 40 under Forty, Class of 2022 and Sterling resident, will take the post on March 6, according to a Monday press release from MDAR.
“We will continue to work to ensure a safe and secure food supply while building a more equitable, robust, and resilient local food system,” Randle said in the press release. “Agriculture has laid the foundation for my career, and I have a deep appreciation for the dedicated members of our Massachusetts agricultural sector. It’s truly a privilege to work with our MDAR team, farmers, fishers, and stakeholders in this new role.”
Prior to serving as deputy commissioner, Ashley was the member services director for Northeast Dairy Producers Association, Inc. in New York and the marketing specialist/special projects at the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation, and Forestry, according to the press release.
MDAR is part of the Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs, and Randle’s appointment was announced by Energy Commissioner Rebecca Tepper, who was picked for that role in December by now Gov. Maura Healey.
The agricultural department’s mission is to help keep the Massachusetts food supply safe and secure, and to work to keep Massachusetts agriculture economically and environmentally sound, according to the department’s website.
