STEM Summit expected to draw 1,300 to Worcester

Worcester’s DCU Center will host 1,300 educators, business officials and government officials Wednesday for the 11th annual Massachusetts STEM Summit.

Organizers say Massachusetts is positioning itself for its second decade as a leader in initiatives geared towards science, technology, engineering and math. This year's focus will be on the commonwealth’s Gateway Cities, or former manufacturing centers that have struggled to adjust to changing economies. Worcester, Fitchburg and Leominster are among the 26 communities in Massachusetts that have that designation.

Gov. Deval Patrick, U.S. Rep. Joseph Kennedy and Worcester Technical High School Principal Sheila Harrity are among the expected attendees, as well as Nathan Han, a Boston Latin School student who won the 2014 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair.

There are 44 break-out sessions planned and the event will also be on Twitter under the hashtag #MASTEMSUMMIT.
