The state’s tax amnesty program is ending next month but has already collected back taxes from 4,500 delinquents who owed $10 million, according to the state Department of Revenue.
The amnesty program began last month and forgives delinquent taxpayers from having to pay penalties and interest on those penalties if the amount of back taxes is paid in full, plus interest.
There is more than $400 million owed in taxes and penalties that qualify for the program covering 36,000 eligible taxpayers.
The program, which only applies to businesses and trusts, expires June 1.
