Jobless rates were down in all of the state's labor markets in August, according to the state Office of Labor and Workforce Development.
In Worcester, the unemployment rate dropped from 10.1 percent in July to 9.2 percent in August. In August 2009, Worcester's jobless rate was 9.3 percent.
The Framingham market's rate fell to 6.5 percent in August from 7.2 percent the previous month. Framingham's unemployment rate was well below the state average throughout the recession.
The Leominster-Fitchburg-Gardner area's rate fell to 11 percent from 12.2 percent the prior month. A year ago, its rate was 11.4 percent.
Athol, which has maintained one of the highest jobless rates in Central Massachusetts, finished August with a jobless rate of 11.2 percent, down from 12.2 percent a month prior and from 11.6 percent a year ago.
The statewide jobless rate was 8.8 percent in August.
