State Uses Worcester Firm To Buy Energy At Auction

The state has turned to Worcester's World Energy Solutions to buy more than 363 million kilowatt hours of electricity at a $10 million savings to the state, World Energy said.

Along with San Diego-based Science Applications International Corp. in late May, World Energy conducted its fourth online energy auction for the state since 2005. The results were contract awards to Direct Energy to supply electricity to several state agencies including the state police and the state Department of Corrections, as well as non-state agencies such as the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority.

According to World Energy and SAIC, the auction attracted more than 140 bids. The state was able to compare prices and terms quickly and made the award shortly after receiving the last bid.

The contracts resulting from the auction are for two years.
