The state Department of Environmental Protection and the Massachusetts Food Association are set to announce a new initiative to reduce the number of plastic bags distributed at supermarkets across the state.
The DEP and the association will be joined by state legislators and Boston city councilors at an announcement of the program tomorrow at a Shaw’s Supermarket in Dorchester.
During the event, the DEP and the association will sign a memorandum of understanding and discuss the methods that will be used to cut down on plastic bag usage at the state’s more than 500 grocery stores.
